Terms of Service
Last updated: July 4, 2026
These Terms of Service describe the terms under which we provide the RefBridgeMCP service (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to comply with and be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, you may not use the Service. We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last Updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
In these terms, the words "we," "us," and "our" refer to PersonAIlized, LLC, a North Carolina (US) limited liability company, and the words "you" and "your" refer to users of the Service. The "Terms" refer to these terms of service.
1. The Service
RefBridgeMCP is a hosted Model Context Protocol ("MCP") bridge that lets you connect third-party AI clients (such as Claude, ChatGPT, and other MCP-compatible clients) to your Zotero library. After you authorize the Service via Zotero's OAuth flow, the Service exposes a per-user MCP endpoint that your chosen AI client can call to search, read, and (with your confirmation) modify your Zotero library on your behalf.
2. No Affiliation with Zotero
RefBridgeMCP is an independent product operated by PersonAIlized, LLC. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the Corporation for Digital Scholarship or the Zotero project. "Zotero" is a trademark of the Corporation for Digital Scholarship and is used here only to identify compatibility with the Zotero platform via its public API and OAuth interface.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old and have a valid Zotero account to use the Service. The Service is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly provide this service to them. We reserve the right to bar any user from using the Service.
4. Accounts and Access
4.1 Zotero authentication
The Service uses Zotero's OAuth flow as its sole authentication method. We never see your Zotero password. We do receive your Zotero user ID and username so we can identify your account and call the Zotero API on your behalf. You are responsible for safeguarding your Zotero credentials and for all activity performed under your authorized session.
4.2 MCP client authorization
You are responsible for the AI clients you authorize to reach your MCP endpoint and for the actions those clients take, including possible changes and edits to your Zotero library. You may revoke a client's access at any time from your dashboard.
5. Your Content
5.1 Ownership
Your Zotero library, including bibliographic items, notes, annotations, tags, and attachments (your "Content"), remains yours. The Service reads and writes to your library on your behalf using the access scope you granted via Zotero OAuth.
5.2 License to operate the Service
To operate the Service, you grant PersonAIlized a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to transmit, cache, and process your Content solely to fulfill MCP requests made by AI clients you have authorized. We do not store your Content or use your Content to train AI models and we do not share your Content with third parties except as described in the Privacy Policy to provide you the Service.
6. AI Clients and Their Limitations
The Service does not itself operate a large language model. AI clients you connect (such as Claude, ChatGPT, or self-hosted MCP clients) receive your Content over the MCP protocol and process it under those providers' own terms and privacy policies. In particular:
- AI outputs are probabilistic and may contain errors.
- AI-generated content is not professional advice.
- You are responsible for decisions made based on AI outputs.
- You are responsible for reviewing the terms, privacy policies, and data-handling practices of any AI client you connect.
7. Acceptable Use
You may not:
- Use the Service for unlawful, harmful, or abusive purposes.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or Zotero's own services.
- Attempt to bypass security, authentication, rate limits, or usage limits.
- Submit personal information about somebody else without their consent.
- Submit personal information about children (even with their consent).
- Submit content that infringes the copyright or other intellectual property rights of somebody else.
- Use the MCP service to provide third-parties (e.g., AI vendors) access to copyrighted Content or Content that you do not explicitly have the right to share.
8. Management of the Service
From time to time, we may modify the functionality of the Service by adding features, changing features, and/or removing functionality. We reserve the right to remove any session, token, or connector that violates these Terms.
9. Credits, Payments, and Billing
Certain features require a paid subscription:
- Payments are processed by third-party providers (currently Stripe).
- Subscriptions renew until cancelled and are non-refundable except where required by law.
- You are responsible for usage incurred under your account.
We may change pricing and usage rules from time to time with reasonable notice.
10. Suspension and Termination
You may stop using the Service and disconnect Zotero at any time from your dashboard. We may suspend or terminate access to the Service at any time in our discretion, including without limitation for violations of these Terms.
11. NO WARRANTIES
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS," "AS AVAILABLE," AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE DISCLAIM THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
12. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES. OUR MAXIMUM LIABILITY WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (X) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (Y) FIFTY DOLLARS.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from and against any claim brought by a third party arising from or in connection with your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.
14. Dispute Resolution and Governing Law
These Terms and your use of the Service are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina. Any disputes arising from or in connection with these Terms or your use of the Service must be brought exclusively in the state and federal courts whose judicial districts include Wake County, North Carolina. By using the Service, you consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts in such matters.
